On January 24th and 25th Nevada Union High School’s theater productions showcased its incredible talent with captivating performances of the “The Lighting Thief : The Percy Jackson Musical” with their sun cast, followed by the moon cast on January 31st and February 1st .
The musical, based on the popular book series by Rick Riordan, transported audienced into the thrilling world of Percey Jackson, a demigod navigating challenges and adventures in a quest to reclaim a stolen lightning bolt.
“ The feeling was extremely surreal. We’ve been working on this for around four months and it didn’t really hit me that it was coming to an end for my cast until I made it up to the lobby.” Said Isabelle Peters (12). “I’ve been very emotional about its ending but it’s really bittersweet because it’s so special and rare that we get to have something like this and I consider myself lucky to have been a part of something like this. I have done other hobbies, and never in my life have I been sad it was ending. That’s how I Know how special this is.”

“The graduation of many of the seniors at Nevada Union- High School continue to cleave behind a legacy of resilience and creativity, inspiring future generations to pursue their passions and embrace challenges. The drama department has changed my life in so many ways.” Says Stella Singer (12). “Ithas helped me develop public speaking skills aswell as personal self-esteem and confidence. Through NU Drama, I have made friends for life both with my classmates and with our teacher, Rob.”
As they step into the next chapter of their lives, they carry with them the values and friendships formed during their times in theater production at Nevada Union, impacting both their peers and the wider community in profound ways.
“To anyone considering joining the Drama department, I would say do it. I was placed in the class by accident and I quickly fell in love with it, and now I want to do it for the rest of my life. Even if you don’t want to pursue theater as a career, the class will bring so much safety and laughter into your life, along with teaching you many life skills that are applicable in all areas.” Said Stella Singer(12).

“It’s so hard to compare shows, but you could tell from the end when the kids got emotional, that this cast is like a family,” Drama teacher Mr. Metcalfe said, “They love doing theatre, but more importantly they love doing theatre with each other, and realizing that it’s over, and now they’ll go off into the world without that family, and that makes them sad. It’s a beautiful experience to see everyone so connected.”
